The purpose of this project is to help reduce the risk of contamination of well water by implementing proper construction and maintenance practices and safeguards for existing wells.

$1,000 or $2,500 where in a well head protection area (WHPA – A, B or C)

Must complete the Clean Water Program Worksheet for Septic Systems and Wells.

• Landowners are required to hire a licensed contractor to do the work. If the work involves any alteration to the well it must be done by a licensed well contractor according to Ontario Regulation 903.
• Must comply with Ministry of the Environment procedures for decommissioning or abandoning an unused water well according to Ontario Regulation 903. Details of the procedure must be documented on a water well record and a copy submitted upon completion to the Ministry of the Environment and program staff.

• Installing pitless adapter to replace drilled well pits.
• Grading and permanently seeding soil surface around well.
• Sealing annular space around well casing.
• Upgrading or replacement of dilapidated casing.
• Extending well casing to 16 inches (40 cm) above finished level.
• Proper well head caps.
• Landscaping to divert water away from well head.

• Licensed contractor fees.
• Materials and labour (other than applicant’s or applicant’s dependent family).
• Wiring and plumbing costs associated with well upgrades.
• Baseline water quality tests.

• Well pumps.
• Water purification or treatment systems.
• Drilling of new wells.
• Labour and machinery use of the applicant, family dependents, and the applicant’s business.
• Wellhead upgrades where municipal water supply is available.
• Connections to municipal water supply.
