Fertilizer, Chemical and Fuel Storage or Handling
The purpose of this project is to prevent contamination of groundwater by fertilizers, farm chemicals, and fuel products.

Requirements
Must complete an Environmental Farm Plan to be eligible.
Eligible Projects
- Farm chemical storage buildings.
- Chemical mixing/sprayer washing structures.
- Spill containment for farm fuel storages (On-Farm Gasoline and Diesel Fuel Storage – Ontario Federation of Agriculture).
- Liquid fertilizer handling and storage facilities.
- Upgrading existing facilities to prevent groundwater contamination.
Project Details
- Chemical storage buildings must be able to contain any spills which may occur within the building. No floor drains are permitted in storage buildings. Must have minimum 2 inches (5 cm) curb.
- Must satisfy Canadian Farm Building Code.
- Buildings must be used exclusively for farm chemical storage.
- Fuel storage spill containment must meet or exceed Gasoline Handling Code standards. Tanks, pumps and hoses must be ULC approved.
- Impermeable liquid fertilizer storage, handling and 110% spill containment, i.e., clay lined.
- An emergency plan for accidental exposure and spills, including cleanup and disposal is encouraged.
- Landowners can elect to undertake a maximum of one of each type of project.
Eligible Costs
Labour and materials associated with the construction of pesticide storage buildings, fuel storage and spill containment area.
Ineligible Costs
Labour and machinery use of the applicant, family dependents, and the applicant’s business.
