The purpose of this project is to incorporate opportunities for community projects or other innovative proposals which contribute to improved water quality, overall watershed conditions, support restoration or enhancement of natural heritage features or other similar outcomes.

• Where applicable design by professional engineers may be advisable on complex and/or large projects. Supervision of construction is not mandatory yet may be specified as required by program representatives on large and/or complex projects.
• Projects must obtain approval from appropriate agencies prior to construction. In addition, any work done on municipal drains also requires prior approval from the municipality.

• To be considered by the Steering Committee on a project-by-project basis.
• May include innovative projects which can demonstrate an in-situ improvement to water quality or overall watershed conditions, or which support restoration or enhancement or natural heritage features (e.g. improve fish habitat, streams, shorelines or riparian areas, connectivity/linkages, habitats, etc.) or other similar outcomes.
• May include community projects or other third-party projects to help supplement other funding sources for a project. Projects located on publicly owned lands or lands secured for long term environmental conservation purposes would be preferred.

• Studies, strategies or research projects.
• Active/licensed aggregate pits/quarries.
• Projects eligible under other program categories.

• Professional design, labour, supervision and material.
• Trees, shrubs, grasses, wildflowers, and planting costs.
• Seedling planting is preferred; however, where need is strong and when recommended by forestry staff, larger stock trees may be eligible for cost-share with $30 maximum per tree (includes planting).
• Design, engineering, minor excavation, material and labour costs of buffer strips.
• Tree protection systems and maintenance agreement costs obtained through the CA or planting contractor.
• Establishment of cover crops on tilled land (in conjunction with tree planting).

Note: Projects in and along waterways and ditches may need approval by municipalities, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Foresty, Environment and Climate Change Canada, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, or the Conservation Authority prior to implementation. Any work done on municipal drains also requires prior approval from the municipality. The applicant is responsible for acquiring all necessary approvals.

• Commercial stock, fruit trees or Christmas tree species that are intended for commercial resale.
• Labour and machinery use of applicant, family dependents, and the applicant’s business.
• Labour, administrative, contingency funds, or operating expenses.
• Expenses related to advocacy activities, mileage, meal/beverage costs or other related incidental expenses.
• Research projects.
• Land acquisition.
• Trees and shrubs planted as shelterbelts around buildings.
• Permits and fees.
